NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA: AFRICA'S WILDLIFE PARADISE AND CULTURAL HERITAGE

The Ngorongoro Crater, a huge volcanic caldera, is considered Africa’s wildlife paradise and has the highest animal density on the continent. The “eighth wonder of the world” attracts a constant stream of visitors who look forward to unrivalled animal encounters.

The crater rim, over 2,200 metres high, offers a panoramic view of the thriving ecosystem, where around 30,000 animals roam freely in various habitats.

From black-maned lions to the endangered black rhinos, the crater is home to a remarkable diversity of species, including the iconic flamingos that populate the soda waters of Lake Magadi.

In the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Maasai live in coexistence with the wild animals and provide insights into their ancient way of life in their traditional bomas. As nomadic herders, they continue to share the land with the predators and embody a rich cultural heritage interwoven with the splendour of nature.
